Thanks to a new quickshifter sensor on the shift drum, shifting is smoother than ever. It does not allow quick shifting up to 2nd gear from 1st gear; it is an up-only system. Defeating the quickshifter is possible if you so choose.

The frame has been designed to provide optimal flex for supermoto shredding by varying the thickness of the walls and bracing. Welding is accomplished by robots using chromoly that has been hydroformed and laser-cut. Aluminum subframes with polyamide reinforcements are back there, along with a hollow diecast aluminum swingarm with 22mm axles.

Updates have been made to the ergonomics. A new engine map selector switch is also included on the new 450 SMR. It is said to have "better contact points between the motorcycle and the user." The footpegs have also been redesigned using FEA, as has the seat, which is flatter. A counterbalancer is built into the motor to reduce fatigue.

It retains SOHC architecture, but it has a new 450cc engine. The powerplant is smaller, the sprocket is lowered 3mm, and the engine is tilted back two degrees to reduce squatting on acceleration. New cylinders have been installed, the crankshaft has been updated, and the Pankl transmission's ratios have been revised.

The electronics for the 2023 KTM 450 SMR are controlled by a Keihin (Hitachi Astemo) Engine Management System. A quickshifter, launch control, traction control, and two engine maps were included in that package.

Increasing stability and reducing squatting on acceleration is the result of moving the shock mount. New shock body. It’s lighter and shorter than previous examples, with full stroke retained. Fork legs are grasped by CNC-machined aluminum triple clamps, reducing handlebar twist and increasing gripping surface, and WP Xact suspension is used at both ends. There is a 16mm offset between the clamps.

Metzeler Racetec SM K1 tires mounted on Alpina rims are designed specifically for supermoto use. Those are 16.5-inch tires on the front. At the front is a 310mm floating disc with a radially mounted 4-piston Brembo caliper. In the back, there is also a Brembo caliper on a 220mm disc.
