Sensing the rise of small and medium sportbikes that first ignited in Asian markets, Honda introduced the CBR250RR , built by PT Astra Honda in Indonesia. Its main highlight was its (then) new in-line twin engine, while 2021 saw its First facelift with a performance boost of 41bhp at 13,000rpm. and even richer equipment that included a one-way clutch, selectable mappings and a quickshifter.

Now Honda announce that next weekend (24-25/9) it will present the new CBR250RR for 2023 at the Twin Ring Motegi track, as part of the MotoGP race that will probably take place there.

It is not clear exactly what will change, however a survey of the press of the countries directly interested in the CBR250RR gives us a clear direction: it is probably not a revolution, but for a careful refinement of the existing model.

This will include a new Showa SFF-BP fork, some engine care which will result in a 1bhp boost, the addition of emergency brake lights – in case of hard braking the rear light will flash as a warning to oncoming drivers ), as well as the necessary new colors.

The bike will be offered in two versions, one for the road and one for the track, which is largely still the case today as the Asian markets have the CBR250RR for the road and the race-tuned CBR250RR SP with an additional CBR250RR SP QS version that differs from the factory-fitted quick shifter (QS).

So far the CBR250RR has not set foot in Europe in any form and we see it highly unlikely that this will change with the 2023 model, especially if this is indeed a limited upgrade of the existing one.
