Long live the rally, short lived the enduro! The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally is a new version that is recommended for world travellers - more comfort, more off-road, and more fuel in the tank! The most off-road version, the Multistrada 1260 Enduro, was also discontinued when the large Multistradas with 1260 V2 engines were replaced by V4 multinationals.

According to Ducati, the new Multistrada V4 Rally is designed for the most demanding travellers, who want to reach distant destinations, even as a couple, without having to stop for (tedious, editor's note) fuel stops. Sounds believable, after all, the new Rally is equipped with a larger tank, longer suspension travel, additional electronic gadgets and, for the first time in a production motorcycle, fuel-saving cylinder deactivation while driving.

More off-road action in the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally thanks to longer suspension travel

Accordingly, the new Rally model lives up to its name - an adventure bike that works better over long distances and off-road than all other models in the Multi V4 series. The Rally also has the semi-active chassis, now even with an auto-leveling function, which evens out the driving position level even when the driver, passenger and luggage are fully loaded - already known from competitors such as the BMW R 1250 GS with ESA chassis or KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. Suspension travel is increased from 170mm at the front and 180mm at the rear on the conventional Multistrada V4 to 200mm each on the Rally, increasing ground clearance for off-road excursions. In addition, there are wider, more coarsely profiled footpegs with removable rubber inserts, standard wire spoke rims, center stand,

Long frowned upon by Ducati - more comfort for the passenger!

How much the engineers have dealt with passenger comfort (obviously a frowned upon Italians in the past) can be seen in the fact that the side case mounts are pushed back and the rear is extended to accommodate the passenger to give more legroom. In addition, the passenger also gets new footpegs with larger rubber inserts, which in turn reduce unpleasant vibrations. And if all that is not enough for you, there are various saddles with different heights for the driver and front passenger, as well as a lowered chassis.

Too small for the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally? Not any longer longer!

Short legs alone are no reason not to be able to own the new Ducati Multistrada V4 RallyTo make it easier to put your feet down when stationary or during slow driving maneuvers (especially with a passenger), the machine is equipped with the Minimum Preload function - known from the current Multistrada V4 S and similar to the optional Ride Height Device on the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 SpecialOf course, especially with the higher rally, it makes sense to reduce the height of the machine when stationary or when driving slowly by electronically resetting the shock absorber preload. A brand new feature is the Easy Lift function, which reduces the effort required to lift the motorcycle from the side stand at the touch of a button thanks to the compression of the fork and shock absorber.

An unbelievable amount of electronics on the new Multi V4 Rally

Anyone who thinks that the electronic chassis with the additional features is enough electronics anyway has probably never asked about a modern Ducati. Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), adjustable performance modes, four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro), full LED lighting with DRL and Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL), 6.5 inch color TFT display, Bosch -Brembo 10.3ME cornering ABS, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Engine Brake Control (EBC) Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up & Down, Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) and Ducati Connect for mobile phone, Music and navigation are standard on board. Not to forget the two radar-based systems Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).

The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally does not challenge the DesertX for its off-road crown

But that was still not all, new for the Rally version of the Multistrada is a somewhat misleadingly called Power Mode for the Enduro mode, which offers a more dynamic and direct response and throttles the exorbitant power from 170 hp to 114 hp - actually an anti-power mode. It was probably important that the large Multi V4 Rally still has more horses than the currently most off-road model, the Ducati DesertX with the smaller 950 V2 and 110 hp. However, one does not want to deny the best off-road properties of the DesertX anyway. Like its other V4 sisters, the new Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally has a 19-inch front wheel (120/70-19 at the front, 170/60-17 at the rear), while it which DesertX is even more serious about with their 21er front wheel. But anyone who also wants to go off-road with the new Rally will know anyway that the power - whether 114 or 110 hp - should always be sufficient for off-road driving. In addition to the more tolerable power output, the Rally in Enduro mode also tunes the DSS Evolution chassis for off-road, sets the traction control to low intervention, disables wheelie control, disables the rear ABS and suppresses rear wheel lift detection.

For the first time also on a motorcycle - cylinder deactivation while driving!

A novelty is integrated in the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally in a very inconspicuous, invisible and probably not noticeable way when driving - the extended cylinder deactivation. While the rear cylinder bank was already deactivated when the other Multistrada V4 models were idling, this is also done on the new Multi V4 Rally while driving in overrun mode. The purpose is, of course, lower fuel consumption and thus reduced emissions.
