The Yamaha XSR 700 has now been around for around 7 years. Apparently there weren't many changes, and why should they? The motorcycle still looks good in retro style. Which means that Yamaha made a first-class hit with this bike back in 2016. The seat height has changed noticeably, increasing from 815 millimeters to 835 millimeters in the 2022 model. This allows the motorcycle to steer a little more agile around corners. The wide handlebars at 760 millimeters also contribute to the handling. The handlebars feel slightly higher than on comparable motorcycles, which benefits the position of the upper body. Thanks to the combination with the soft seat, you can comfortably endure the whole day in the saddle.

The round LED headlights and LED taillights, as well as the new LED turn signals, fit perfectly into the retro design and in no way detract from the classic style.

Well-known CP2 engine with 73.4 hp - is that enough these days?

The rear wheel of the Yamaha XSR 700 is challenged by the well-known CP2 689cc straight-twin engine. Which is also installed in the Yamaha MT-07 and the Yamaha Tenere 700. The abbreviation MT stands for "Master of torque", which means "master of torque". This slogan suggests that this engine is anything but boring. He accelerates the rider on the Yamaha XSR 700 skilfully with a lot of punch out of every corner and before you know it, the front wheel is very light. The unit responds finely to movement on the gas and can be accelerated evenly. Beyond 150 km/h, however, the air gets thinner, but that doesn't take away from the fun of driving.

With the "small" reliable engine you are still up to date and will be surprised every day with a smile on your face when you turn the gas tap.

Suspension and brakes of the Yamaha

The chassis immediately feels soft and confidence-inspiring. This is an acceptable compromise between sportiness and comfort. The Yamaha XSR 700 can be easily driven around any type of curve and with the least physical effort. Thanks to the large handlebars, the motorcycle leans into every curve as if by itself. Only seasoned riders over 85 kg might feel a bit let down by the rear shock absorber. It could be a bit harder or adjustable here.

Nevertheless, the feeling in the saddle is by no means disappointing. The brakes can also be dosed well and are designed so that even inexperienced beginners shouldn't be alarmed when braking. Of course, there are other braking systems here that anchor much harder, but you would have to dig deeper into your wallet for this. All in all, this motorcycle enjoys a successful chassis, which always gives you a good feeling and also allows longer stages. Both beginners and advanced riders will enjoy the good handling of the Yamaha XSR 700.

Yamaha XSR 700 in everyday life

The Yamaha XSR 700 definitely has the potential to become a faithful companion in almost any situation. Whether on the way through traffic, to work, or on Sundays for the usual round with friends or of course alone. The successful retro look likes to draw attention to itself and the powerful engine is up to any situation. If you can't choose the weather and get caught in the rain, the factory-fitted ABS ensures the necessary safety. With the ABS, the Yamaha XSR 700 has already reached the end of the road when it comes to electronic helpers. She doesn't need more.

Shifting is relatively easy, even if other manufacturers like to install automatic shifters these days, this Yamaha XSR 700 has to do without. However, this does not damage the overall impression. The small, almost too small, round display is well tidy and blends in visually with the machine. However, readability suffers from the size of the display. Analogue fittings would not have been a disadvantage here for legibility and retro style.

Even a longer tour with the Yamaha XSR 700 is nothing in the way. It is comfortable and easy to drive.
