Bad new For Tesla fans th Price of Its Most Advanced Driver-Assistance Tech hiked.

Tesla increased the price of its most advanced driver-assistance package from $8,000 to $12,000 within two years of its introduction.

There is still time for consumers to upgrade to the so-called "Full Self-Driving" feature before the price hike takes effect on January 17.

Tesla's latest price hike was announced not on its website or through an official press release, but in a Tweet from company founder Elon Musk.

Musk also tweeted that the subscription price would increase.

The Full Self-Driving system was made available by Tesla on a month-by-month basis last year, geared towards people who may want to use it during road trips or other periods of high usage.

As recently as 2020, Tesla charged $8,000 for the technology, which it updated periodically with software tweaks designed to enhance its capabilities.

While this system is called "Full Self-Driving," it is more like an especially advanced adaptive cruise control system that can accelerate, brake, steer, and execute lane changes on a wide variety of roads. Occasionally, the system asks drivers for their input, particularly on roads where its sensors can't see what's ahead.

Tesla's cars are not fully autonomous. Tesla models are for sale.
