Yes, a bigger Royal Enfield Himalayan is in the starting blocks. But it won't be a 650 for the time being. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, on the other hand, could hit the market in 2023.

Rumors have been circulating about a new Royal Enfield Himalayan, which is supposed to be launched with the 648 twin of the Royal Enfield Interceptor and Royal Enfield Continental. This was fueled by statements made by Royal Enfield CEO Siddhartha Lal at the beginning of 2019.

Indian media reported in October 2021, with reference to inside information, of a market launch in the fourth quarter of 2024. Unfortunately, these rumors were invalidated by Royal Enfield in November 2021. When asked whether a 650 Himalayan is being developed, a resounding "no" followed.

Instead, it is now certain that a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 will soon be launched. The 411 cm³ single cylinder, with which the current Himalayan is equipped, is to be drilled out to 450 cubic meters and generate almost twice as much power with 40 HP. At the front, long suspension travel and the 21-inch wheel should ensure off-road mobility. Stronger, bigger and more enduro - this is the direction in which the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is heading.

We are still not ready to give up the dream of a Royal Enfield Himalayan 650. Maybe we just have to wait longer. The 650 engine from the two well-known bikes Royal Enfield Interceptor and Continental could produce 48 hp at 7,250 rpm and 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm in a large Himalayan. The Interceptor and the Continental are equipped with a 6-speed gearbox.

For comparison: the 411 cc single cylinder engine of the "normal" Himalayan has an output of 25 hp at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The larger motor with more power could meet with open ears, especially among Himalayan fans in Europe.

However, it is very likely that with the 650, a new Enfield will be developed that follows the concept presented at EICMA 2021 (see also the video above under the first paragraph "The Royal Enfield innovations at EICMA 2021").
