All new 2022 Capstone Course Toyota Gives 2022 Tundra Another Luxe Grade.

Toyota's redesigned Tundra full-size pickup truck gains the new Capstone trim for the 2022 model year - the same year the truck is redesigned. The Capstone will be powered by the Tundra's i-Force twin-turbo hybrid V-6, which produces 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque (the hybrid drivetrain is optional on lower trim levels). What is the plushness of the Capstone?

To start, Toyota opted for obligatory giant wheels - 22-inchers, the largest ever on a Tundra (the truck otherwise maxes out at 20s). Power running boards provide easier entry into the cabin, and a standard power bed step allows for easier access to the 5.5-foot bed (the Capstone will only be available in a crew cab, called the CrewMax, and with the 5.5-foot bed).

As you enter the Capstone, you'll find a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen - the latter with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - as well as a standard 10-inch color head-up display. These items are also available in lesser grades.

This truck's perforated leather seats come with semi-aniline cowhide trim, and they are available in a black-and-white combination exclusive to Capstone. Capstone badges are inlaid in the dashboard wood and illuminate upon entry, and open-pore wood trim embellishes the center console and passenger side of the dash. The Capstone also comes with a standard panoramic moonroof, and it's the only Tundra with standard acoustic glass on the doors.

Capstone Capabilities

The Capstone can still do truck things, however. Its towing capacity is 10,340 pounds — less than the Tundra crew cab’s 11,450-pound maximum, but not the lowest in the lineup. Payload is 1,485 pounds, however, which is the lowest rating among the Tundra’s many configurations; it’s almost 500 fewer pounds than the truck’s 1,940-pound maximum.

Pricing and Release Date

Toyota says the Capstone will arrive in dealerships in the spring, but it has not announced pricing. The current most expensive Tundra is the 1794 Edition crew cab with a 6.5-foot bed and a hybrid powertrain. It starts at $62,715 (plus $1,695 destination). Although we don't yet know how much more the Capstone will be, we expect it to be more than that. Watch this space.
