The journalistic sickness of branding every QJ as Benelli takes on grotesque forms: Now new QJs are suddenly new MV Agusta. Nobody would buy a 400cc China MV, which is actually a QJ Motors. Period. And: if MV is serious about survival, the manufacturer wouldn't offer a 400cc QJ Motors as the MV Agusta . And yet the international online press escalates when the new QJ-Motors 400 GS-J appears and not only names them as the new Benelli as before, but also brings MV Agusta into play. Where does it shoot from? From EICMA 2021.

China-MV at EICMA

It all started at EICMA 2021 when the two Lucky Explorers stood next to the MV booth, which were deliberately not presented as Enduros by MV Agusta. The 9.5 with the new MV triple, the 5.5 based on a QJ engine, which is known to put the Benelli TRK 502 on the wheels.

Freshly homologated and from the QJ factory, the A2 super athlete 400 GS-J rolls. It gets the drilled twin of the 350 and should get 44 hp from its 400 cubic meters. The complete machine should weigh only 179 kilograms ready to drive. Visually, the cladding is inspired by contemporary super athletes. USB fork, double discs front and ABS are available. The highlight is the single-sided swing arm of the new QJ, which would make the model unique in this class.

Think of Cagiva

The idea that certain QJ models could run under Cagiva seems much more sensible and a bit more logical. That would be just as suitable for enduro as it is for motorcycles from 125 cubic meters. The subsidiary brand of MV was once successful in both of these areas, as is well known. And: In the end, mother MV doesn't care where the sales come from. Whether from the premium brand MV or the budget range from Cagiva.

QJ is building a new motorcycle. And just because MV is now also linked to the Chinese in addition to Benelli, every new China motorcycle is a new bike under the two European labels for some colleagues in the writing guild. In the case of Benelli, at least technically, that's always true. Neither segment nor price range make sense for the luxury brand MV Agusta. The MV subsidiary Cagiva would have more potential in both.
