At Autopia 2099, all types of electric vehicles will be standing together in a hip environment. Including the Live Wire One conversions from SMCO and Earles Motors.

Electric motorcycles do not seem designed for the concept of "custom". This thought comes when you look at the now numerous custom bikes with batteries and electric motors. At Autopia 2099 there were two new conversions of the Live Wire One - formerly Harley-Davidson, today independent - by the customizers of SMCO and Earles Motors. The problem with the Stromer: The drive technology is usually a large, dark block with no contrast, with a motorcycle around it. It is difficult to shake it. What remains are optics and new methods for the manufacture of add-on parts.

Earles Motors E / Mulholland Custom

The designer Alex Earle quarreled at the beginning with the missing exhaust, which is always a good starting point for the conversion. He looks for it in vain at Live Wire One. His second glance always falls on the tank. Live Wire has it in the form of a cover. The control electronics are located underneath and only work in the original position. The second hurdle of the renovation.

Then Alex starts in the middle: He replaces the air baffles under the tank for the electronics with a new part with liquid cooling. He was inspired by his students at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, who come to his classes with self-made liquid-cooled computers. To do this, he places the heat exchanger under the lower fork bridge. The newly designed combination of front fender and baffles on the battery also increase the cooling capacity for the power storage unit. This is supposed to help the Live Wire One drive cooler when Alex chases them down Mulholland Drive.

In the rear, Alex can go deeper into the subject and designs a new Motard-style bench and fits a rump for the lighting. Finally, he paints the fender, tank and rear end in synthetic haze paint, which the Air Force used in World War II and which creates a transition from blue to gray with a gradient effect. Alex covers the new add-on parts from the 3D printer with a bright orange that is reminiscent of the colors of the insulation on the high-voltage cables of Live Wire.

SMCO Live Wire One Hooligan Racer

Not on Mulholland Drive, but on the racetrack, the makers behind SMCO want the brothers Aaron and Shaun Guardado to drive their Live Wire One. To do this, they primarily reduce the weight of the e-rocket: wheels made of carbon come from BST, and the brothers design the entire body in carbon fiber based on the original parts. In the course of this, the "craftsmen" learn to work with new methods. They design the new footpegs using CAD and print them themselves. In addition, Aaron and Shaun remove all parts for street legal approval. By the way: SMCO can reproduce all parts with these templates. A small series is possible.
