All new HONDA NT 1100 2022 The anti-adventure bike from Honda for 13,500 euros.  For fans of the Pan European and Deauville, Honda designed the NT 1100 as a real touring machine.
In the teaser video for the NT 1100 there was little to be seen of the motorcycle itself. It was suggested: Little has remained of the wiry, sporty charm of the CB X4 study . The consistency with which Honda did not make the NT 1100 a popular crossover bike in the end demands respect and makes one affected. Just not for long, because: What is written on paper and wrapped in plenty of plastic in front of us is probably closer to what the motorcyclist of this world really needs than any crossover model with super sports genes could ever do.

Africa twin drive

No surprise: The NT 1100 gets the drive of the current Africa Twin screwed into the steel frame. The twin gets a tight 104 Nm out of its 1,084 cubic meters at 6,250 tours and delivers 102 hp at 7,500 tours. This power reaches the rear wheel via a chain and six gears. Optionally, the well-known and proven DCT transmission from Honda can be ordered.


Fresh chassis

Said twin hangs in a steel frame that the NT 1100 takes over directly from the Africa Twin. Likewise the screwed aluminum stern. The pure road orientation determines the new chassis: With 17-inch tires in 120/70 at the front and 180/55 at the rear, the 1100 is designed for agile handling. New, simple suspension elements from Showa offer a full 150 millimeters of suspension travel on both wheels. The USD fork is adjustable in preload and rebound. The preload of the spring strut in the Pro-Link aluminum swing arm can only be adjusted hydraulically. The cast aluminum wheels are braked at the front by a double disc with radially bolted Nissin saddles. Single-piston pliers work at the rear. Honda specifies the ready-to-drive curb weights with 238 kilograms and 248 kilograms with DCT. The trail is 108 millimeters,



Lush furnishings

In line with the touring bike segment, the standard equipment of the NT 1100 is generous. Elsewhere, the main stand, the side case set with a total volume of 65 liters, the height-adjustable window, the cruise control and the heated grips are all included ex works at Honda. Since the price for the Honda NT 1100 is still missing, it is difficult to classify. The lighting is provided all around by LED, including self-resetting turn signals and daytime running lights. The 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen in the cockpit is the master of the functions. The functions of the smartphone, which can be charged via a USB socket, are also available via Apple Carplay or Android Auto. The tank holds 20 liters, which with the specified consumption of the shift variant of five liters enables a range of a good 400 kilometers. The consumption for the DCT version has not yet been stated. Based on the lower CO emissions of 110 to 116 grams per kilometer, this should be even lower than with the switch.


Standard electronics

The Honda NT 1100 is cautious when it comes to electronics. On board are the obligatory ABS, three preconfigured driving modes Urban, Rain and Tour, two freely configurable modes, as well as a three-stage, adjustable HSTC traction control, as well as three-stage wheelie control. In the Africa Twin, this combination is provided with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and the systems are therefore sensitive to tilting. Honda does not reveal whether the NT 1100 has this feature in the first serve. If so: it fits. If not: difficult to argue for the 2022 model year.


Maximum upgradeable

Honda offers three packages for the NT 1100 ex works. The Urban package comes with a 50 liter top case, backrest and a small tank bag. The touring package supplements the equipment with comfort seats on both seats, more comfortable footrests and fog lights. Both can be combined in the travel package. On top of that, a quickshifter with blipper for clutch-free shifting can be ordered. There are currently three colors to choose from: Matte Iridum Gray Metallic, Pearl Glare White and Graphite Black, i.e. gray, white and black. For the DCT model, Honda has not yet communicated a price for Germany, the shift variant costs 13,509 euros plus transfer.


Again, Honda is not doing what you expect. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether that is good or bad. In any case, Honda and the NT 1100 decided not to squeeze into a non-existent gap as another crossover model, but instead placed it as a real touring machine with a high level of utility, far removed from the performance mania. Hats off, Honda.
