Dynamism and versatility

New magnetic valves, algorithms and an improvement of the six-axis inertial platform and of the sinking sensors of the suspension part, have allowed KTM to obtain a good level of functioning of the SAT system , as highlighted on the occasion. The combination of these elements allows you to evaluate the background in real time, directly adding the Suspension Control Unit to realign in between based on expectations.

From a mechanical point of view, the new WP APEX SAT fork has damping characteristics indicated as "conventional", but with the benefits of an adjustment linked to an electro-actuated valve. Appearance possible with a new construction, as reported, for a faster response to signals and the use of more efficient PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) sensors . The WP APEX SAT monoshock allows excursions between 140 and 200 mm depending on the KTM model on which it is present, characterized by a layout with an oil / gas external body. Another sensor is focused on optimizing preload adjustment, at the heart of SAG management, in addition to weight and trim distribution.

One of the interesting aspects concerns the adjustments, which can be carried out in real time and directly on the saddle, given a system capable of autonomously carrying out assessments and adjustments, as reported.


On KTM road models equipped with WP semi-active SAT suspensions, the operating parameters can be set and selected using the block menu keys to the left of the handlebar and observing the large TFT display . Parameters concerning height, behavior and hydraulic response.
Versatility is linked to three modes of use, varying between Comfort , Street and Sport with established levels of compression and rebound damping. The preload of the monoshock can be adjusted in 10 positions between 0% and 100%.

In the case of larger adjustments you can purchase the optional package Suspension Pro , with three possible configurations: Auto , Advanced and Track or Offroad if eclectic KTM 1290 Super Adventure S .
A feature proposed by the Suspension Pro package is the Anti-div e, which significantly attenuates the hollow of the front axle when braking to support stability and comfort. By opting for the Auto mode, the SAT configuration rests on the rapid work of the 6-axis inertial platform , the SCU control unit(Suspension Control Unit) and the various sensors to meet the requirements of the motorcyclist. The Advanced mode then, through the TFT, allows the independent management of the damping of the fork and of the single shock absorber on 8 levels.


There are also three options for automatic preload referring to the package: Low , Standard and High . A management that considers the weight of the rider, any passenger and any luggage carried. Standard is the traditional and neutral setting, Low is linked to a relaxed type of driving, while High is the most loaded on the front end compared to a more dynamic driving.
