With the semi-active chassis, KTM upgrades the 1290 Super Duke R properly and turns it into the Super Duke R Evo. R and Evo will get new colors for 2022. It is difficult to breathe in thin air at the summit. KTM seems to have recognized this, is equipping its bare flagship 1290 Super Duke R - finally - with a semi-active chassis and attaching an Evo to the model name. The KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo is coming for model year 2022. It rounds off the R at the top.

Slight facelift of the Super Duke R

The basis of the Evo is the Super Duke R, which was heavily revised in 2020. The V2 with 1,301 continues to push absurd 180 PS and 140 Nm into the transmission. In 2022, this should go faster with R and Evo, because KTM is installing a new short-stroke throttle that only needs a 65-degree angle of rotation between idle and full throttle and thus relieves the wrist. The two R models are available in two paint finishes for the new model year: KTM complements the familiar version in blue-orange with the new color scheme in silver and orange. Both paintwork variants in both models come with an orange frame and rims.

It's no surprise: The Evo's new semi-active chassis comes from WP and is directly derived from the Super Duke GT system. The second-generation Apex chassis has been working in the GT since model year 2021.

The system semi-actively adjusts the damping rates for compression and rebound via compression speed and the results of the IMU (Interial Measurement Unit) on the accelerations. Basically, the system in the Evo comes with an electronically adjustable preload on the shock absorber and three selectable driving programs (Comfort, Street, Sport) with different basic hardnesses of the damping, which are made a few percent harder or softer depending on the driving condition.

As an option, KTM offers the Suspension Pro package for the Evo. It expands the damper modes by three additional programs (Track, Advanced, Auto). As expected, Track is configured for use on fast racetracks that require high stability on the brakes. Advanced allows manual adjustment of the damping, which is then controlled semi-actively. Auto, as the name suggests, constantly adapts the suspension elements to the driving style and road conditions, and thus virtually bundles the driving modes Comfort, Street, Sport and Track in one. A switchable anti-dive function on the fork is also part of the Suspension Pro package.
