All new 2022 KAWASAKI NINJA H2 SX ERLKÖNIG Radar system for the express sports tourer A Kawasaki H2 SX with radar has been known since the beginning of the year. Approval documents emerged and new patents reveal further details.

In November 2019, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki announced, in cooperation with the supplier Bosch, that it would equip its machines with radar-based assistance systems from the end of 2021. KTM and Ducati have already presented corresponding Bosch systems in series models. For model year 2022, the Japanese seem to be making this announcement come true. This is indicated by a caught Erlkönig of a Kawasaki H2 SX, which is obviously equipped with this radar technology.

Radar front and rear

The revised H2 SX clearly has a large radar sensor under a new, smaller headlight. In addition, there is an integrated camera behind the windshield above the headlight. In the periphery, Kawasaki has adapted the fairing, the windshield and the air ducts accordingly. The safety package will then include adaptive distance and speed control and a collision warning. The extent to which these systems intervene or warn in the event of danger is not known. Kawasaki is obviously planning to use an additional radar system in the rear as a blind spot assistant. So far only Ducati offers this as an option in the Multistrada V4.This is indicated by the approval documents of the new H2 SX for 2022, which show a significantly lower mounted license plate. Context: So far, the SX has had the license plate quite high up and just below the rear light.

This attachment would interfere with a radar system positioned there. A new patent from October 2021 shows that Kawasaki has thought of various configurations for the location of the sensor in the rear, whereby the exposed space directly above the license plate is the most unlikely case: vibrations and direct contact with obstacles when maneuvering or accidents are likely to occur Exclude space. The space near the rear light makes more sense. Kawasaki also states that the Senseor in the stern can work using radar, ultrasound or light waves (lidar).

New display in the cockpit

Further modifications can be seen in the cockpit: A full-surface digital display replaces the previous combination of analogue round instrument and TFT additional display. The revision of the H2 SX brings the 200 hp four-cylinder compressor up to Euro 5 level. The premiere of the revised Kawasaki H2 SX is expected on November 23, 2021 at the EICMA in Milan.

Assistance systems are being rolled out more and more. Kawasaki has already announced that its models will be equipped accordingly. The first Erlkönig caught shows that radar technology is on its way.
