Husqvarna Norden 901 First Look (2022) (14 Fast Facts: Production Model) Husqvarna Norden 901 is here two years after the concept bike was revealed to the public. Adventure-tourer that's ready for off-road duties. While it shares parts with KTM 890 Adventure variants, let's start fresh with the new Norden.
  1. The engine is an 889cc DOHC parallel twin. A decidedly oversquare machine, the Husqvarna Norden 901 resists the temptation to be a high-rev74 ft-lbs of torque is available at a manageable 6500 rpm, while 100 horsepower is available at 8000 rpm.n at 8000 rpm. Steel intake and exhaust valves, hydraulic cam chain tensioner, crankshaft on plain bearings, forged three-ring bridged-box pistons (serviced by two oil jets each), and a knock sensor are among the reliability components. There is a gap of more than 9000 miles between service intervals.
  1. There are three ride modes, plus an optional Explorer mode. The Street and Offroad modes use ride-by-wire technology and an IMU to optimize power and electronic aids to reflect the usage. Compared to Offroad, Street mode has a sharper throttle response and more aggressive traction control. Offroad mode smooths out the power and allows the rider to wheelie and steer with the rear end. The cornering-aware feature of traction control is only available on Street models. In the rain mode, power output is reduced, throttle response is slowed, and traction control is maximized. With Explorer mode, riders can customize the modes to their liking - it's a software upgrade. Cruise control comes standard.
  1. Deceleration control is handled in a variety of ways on the Husqvarna Norden 901. ABS can be switched between standard mode and a front-wheel-only Offroad mode. In Street ABS mode, the Bosch 9.1 MP ABS system recognizes when you're leaning over and reacts accordingly. There is a slipper clutch for downshifting, which is augmented by cornering-aware traction control. By reducing power output smoothly, the electronic traction control prevents skidding or hopping if you downshift too quickly for the slipper clutch to respond. The traction control system also intervenes if the front wheel leaves the ground, slowing acceleration. People who don't like traction control can turn it off, and the slipper clutch will operate on its own.
  1. In addition to a slipper function, the clutch has an assist feature to make pulling easier.
  1. With a standard quickshifter, clutch use will be minimized. The six-speed transmission has a short lever throw, which makes gear changes faster. To increase durability, the top three gears have been glass bead blasted.
  1. Despite the Husqvarna logo on the calipers, they are J.Juan units, with the dual front calipers mounted radially. Brembo acquired the Barcelona-based J.Juan back in April for about €70 million (about $85 million).
  1. Chromoly tubing is used on the 2022 Husqvarna Norden 901's trellis frame for increased strength, reduced weight, and optimized flex. The frame puts the rider forward on the chassis to place more weight on the front wheel; the frame is kept short (front-to-back) so a traction-enhancing longer swingarm can be deployed. Stability is enhanced by a non-adjustable steering damper. It is powdercoated black to keep it looking good for longer in off-road conditions.
  1. A pair of aggressive big-block Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires on a 21-/18-inch wheel combo demonstrate the Norden's off-road orientation. Husky didn't cheap out on these tires, or worry about tire longevity-these Pirellis are good rubber for off-road riding. Place a street-oriented tire on your Norden before you leave the dealership if you intend to stick to the pavement. Rally STRs will be in high demand.
  1. WP handles the suspension. Both ends of the motorcycle are equipped with Apex units. The cantilevered shock does not have a linkage and does not offer progressive damping. SpA three-prong knob adjusts spring preload, and only rebound damping can be adjusted - bring a Torx driver for the hexalobular head.he forkForks are open-cartridge designs with compression and rebound dampers located ate fork tubes. The WP Apex fork is held in place by aluminum triple clamps. Fork damping is fully adjustable, but spring preload is fixed. In the front, the wheel travel is 8.7 inches, and in the rear it's 8.5 inches.
  1. The ergonomics can be adjusted to suit the rider. The tapered aluminum handlebar can be mounted in six positions, with an adjustment range of nearly 1.2 inches. You can install the ribbed seat at six or 34.4 inches above the ground. Aluminum footpegs have removable rubber inserts - leave them in for vibration dampening on the street, and remove them for improved off-road boot grip. The rubber inserts also raise the footrest position slightly, another way to adjust the rider triangle. A rear brake lever tip with two positions is a nice touch-one for street boots and the other for off-road boots. It is optional to have a heated seat when riding in cold weather.
  1. On the Husqvarna Norden 901, the full-length ADV fairing houses several features. For starters, you'll notice the LED lighting and standard fog lights. A 12-volt plug powers a GPS device. You can connect your smartphone to the five-inch dash via Bluetooth and the Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles App, but only if you buy the optional Connectivity unit, which adds turn-by-turn navigation, as well as phone and music interfaces. In spite of the fairing's bulk, a Husqvarna insider describes it as "slim" and providing "easy movement and exceptional ergonomics for riders of all sizes." It has spoilers that enhance high-speed stability.
  1. Allow yourself to travel at least 200 miles between gas station visits. Even though the tank holds five gallons, Husqvarna claims a maximum range of 248 miles.
  1. The Norden will be available with a variety of accessories. These include Toratech cases and top cases. Other upgrades include a titanium Akrapovi* muffler (replaces the stainless steel unit), lowering kids (reduces the seat height nearly an inch), soft luggage, heated grips, and a taller windscreen.
  1. Husqvarna's 2022 Norden 901 has an MSRP of $13,999, and it will be available in November. BMW F 850 GS Adventure ($14,399), Honda Africa Twin ($13,545), KTM 890 Adventure R ($14,199), Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT ($14,799), Triumph Tiger 900 Rally ($15,400). We will review the Norden in the next couple of weeks.
