Buell Motorcycles announced its new Buellvana online reservation system on October 21, 2021. Customers can reserve a production slot for any Buell model starting November 1. For your trouble, you'll also get a Buell hat.

According to Buell Motorcycle Company CEO Bill Melvin, the Buellvana model has worked flawlessly over the last three years. "Customers want an easy transaction and product delivered to their neighborhood.". Dealers want satisfied customers, a manufacturer that assists them in resolving issues, and the chance to maintain a profit margin. Bellvana achieves that and will be a model for manufacturers in the future.

Buell says the rest of the process is simple once you reserve a production slot. Buell will contact you to confirm details of which model and options you want as your production slot nears (presumably in the order received, although Buell didn't specify that in specific terms). Additionally, your local delivery location and local service dealer will be identified in the official release.

Buell's Facebook post announcing its Buellvana program included a question about the dealer network. A quick look at the company's website shows a map with 19 dealers marked, and a list below with 20 dealers identified across the country. It's odd to see a dealer location star on the map just west of Chicago, but there are no dealers in Illinois. On the other hand, there's a Waukesha, Wisconsin dealer on the list who is not marked on the map (in fact, there are no dealers listed in the state of Wisconsin), despite being noted as a "Top Dealer" on that list.

Buell posted a picture of the Buellvana program on Instagram, and someone asked that question. They asked, “Who handles service, do you have a list of dealerships?””dealerships?””dealerships?”” To which the official Buell Instagram account responded, “Great question!”. The essence of Buellvana...we set up a local service dealer to take care of you in your local city."

Buell is keeping its dealer and service connections under wraps, so it's unclear if it's just keeping that information a surprise for buyers. In any case, it does seem more likely that consumers would be interested if they knew exactly where they could expect future service after taking delivery.

The success of a great motorcycle depends on a solid parts and service network, too. Getting away from the traditional dealer model may be admirable, but providing so few details isn't exactly an incentive to hand over your hard-earned money.

Speaking of which, what can you get, and what’s pricing like? The new Carbon Fiber Hammerhead 1190 starts at $18,895, while the Carbon Fiber 1190 SX starts at $17,995. Over on Buell’s Facebook post, some fans wondered why there’s no ABS, and also why an almost eight-year-old design is commanding 2021 prices. Still, the heart wants what it wants, and that’s probably how an awful lot of motorcycles find new homes in general. What do you think?
