Honda has revealed the lineup for its 2022 CB500 series—the CB500F naked standard, the CB500X adventure motorcycle, and the CBR500R fairing sportbike. They share many parts already, but all three CB500s also receive matching upgrades in Europe. Here are some of the latest goodies.

  1. The CB500s come with the same Showa SFF-BP 41mm inverted fork found on the CB650R and CBR650R. The new forks should improve handling significantly when replacing the standard ones. An improved fork assembly will be most useful on off-road capable models like the CB500X and sporty models like the CBR500R.
  2. Replace the old single-disc brake system with dual discs. You can see the Nissin calipers mounted radially and the 296mm discs. With the upgraded fork, the brakes are significantly improved.
  3. A new front wheel is on the Honda CB500F and CBR500R for 2022. These wheels are both aluminum Y-spokes that reduce weight for both 17-inchers. CB500X's 19-inch adventure-ready front wheel remains unchanged.
  4. All three CB500s have been fitted with new swingarms. In Honda's opinion, the swingarm on the 2022 is lighter, more flexible laterally, and stiffer rotationally. A source told us the change would improve handling and cornering.
  5. There are new EFI settings for Euro, where A2 power regulations hold sway. Power reaches the 45 horsepower maximum. It will, however, produce more torque.
  6. The Honda CB500 Europe sales were broken down by Honda in a presentation. About half of buyers select the CB500F, while about a third select the CB500X. Sales of the CBR500R make up the remaining 18 percent.
  7. Honda introduced a number of new colors for its CB500F, CB500X, and CBR500R models in 2022. The Grand Prix Red is available on all three models, which is good to start with. Besides Pearl Smoky Gray and Mat Axis Gray Metallic, the CB500F is also available in Pearl Dusk Yellow. Both the CB500X and CBR500R are available in Gunpowder Black Metallic, while CB500X buyers can also choose Pearl Organic Green. "Mat" is Honda's preferred term instead of "Matte."
  8. We don't know if these changes will apply in the US for the 2022s. Sometimes updates happen simultaneously as with the Honda Grom last year, and sometimes we have to wait an extra year as with the Honda Monkey. Early is always better than late!
